“Sibling Stories”

This artwork is focused around the artist’s memories of childhood - intermingling poignancy with satire and humour. The inaccessible position of the family dinner table attempts to convey feelings of alienation and rejection, and confronts issues of inclusion and exclusion often present within step families.
The symbolic nature of the family dinner table, that being, a representation of connectedness is confronted by the position of the table on the wall and its inaccessibility. The projection on the table surface shows a combination of four performances, each representing recollections of silence and parental indifference.
The poetry is an opportunity for the siblings’ voices to ‘interrupt that silence’.
